Best Magic Kingdom Rides (2026): Wear the Kids Out

Hall of Presidents

Magic Kingdom is our favorite theme park of all time. The best rides at Magic Kingdom are family friendly, and not just in the way Barney and hot dogs are technically family friendly.

The best Magic Kingdom attractions Orlando has to offer are enjoyable for everyone, from the new walkers to the Golden Girls. The rides have an impressive amount of detail, and unlike at Universal, no one feels like they need to vomit when they get off of them.

The vast majority of the Magic Kingdom rides and attractions are great, but there are fifteen our family considers to be the best. Below is our ranked list, updated for 2026 now that Splash Mountain is gone, Big Thunder Mountain is back, and half of Frontierland is a construction zone (more on that disaster below).

The Quick Take

If you only read one paragraph: Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear, and the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train are the heavy hitters, but the unsung heroes are the slow, air-conditioned dark rides like Peter Pan’s Flight and Under the Sea that let you sit down without your toddler unraveling. A few things that were true the last time you Googled this are no longer true, so here’s the cheat sheet:

  • Splash Mountain is gone. It reopened as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure on June 28, 2024. Same flume, same big drop, brand-new theme.
  • FastPass+ is dead. The free skip-the-line system was replaced by paid Lightning Lane. You now buy a Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Single Pass in the My Disney Experience app.
  • Big Thunder Mountain is back. It reopened May 3, 2026 after a long refurbishment, with new track and a lowered 38″ height requirement.
  • Park reservations are not required for standard date-based tickets, and a one-day adult Magic Kingdom ticket runs roughly $139 to $209 in 2026 depending on the date.

How Do You Plan a Magic Kingdom Day Without Losing Your Mind?

Disney World is crowded. Like Soldier Field crowded. Waiting in long hot lines is fun and all, but I personally would rather minimize wasted time and irritation.

If you want to enjoy all of the best Magic Kingdom attractions and rides in a single day, you will need a touring plan. Decide what you want to ride and input your must-dos into the free Touring Plans app to get a tentative Magic Kingdom itinerary that you can update throughout the day.

A good personalized touring plan is key to enjoying your day without picking up a misdemeanor for choking a poorly mannered stranger sporting Minnie ears. Pair it with the My Disney Experience app, which is where you now buy Lightning Lane (the paid replacement for the old free FastPass+) and watch live wait times.

Good news on one front: park reservations are no longer required for standard date-based tickets, so you don’t have to lock in your date months out the way you did during the dark years. Tickets are still priced by the day, though, and a one-day, one-park adult ticket runs roughly $139 on the cheapest two days of the year up to about $209 on peak ones, with most non-summer dates landing in the high $180s to $190s. Best Attractions for Magic Kingdom

Best Attractions in Disney Magic Kingdom

15. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is one of the best attractions in Magic Kingdom for toddlers. It is a (mainly) slow-moving ride in a honey pot through the Hundred-Acre Wood. The ride can get a little jerky at times, so it may not be ideal for someone who is sensitive to sharp movement. It also has a bit of a Requiem for a Dream vibe in the Heffalump section.

This line gets long. Consider going to this ride first thing in the morning. There is a cute interactive play area in the queue where kids can smush light-up honey and bang on tigger-themed barrels while they wait, so the Magic Kingdom queue times don’t feel too painful.

Location: Fantasyland

Height Requirement: None

Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass)

14. Town Square Theater

This is one of the few Magic Kingdom Main Street attractions that does not cost extra. The area is dominated by places to spend money charming shops.

Town Square Theater is where you meet Mickey Mouse. Tinker Bell used to share the building, but her meet-and-greet here has been retired, so it’s a Mickey-only stop now. This seemingly unimpressive room makes the list because it is a quick way to meet the big cheese himself in the air conditioning near the entrance to the park.

The entrance to Town Square Theater sits right next to Tony’s Town Square Restaurant, so it’s an easy thing to knock out before or after a sit-down lunch on Main Street. Get it done early, because the line for Mickey balloons later in the day.

Location: Main Street, U.S.A.

Height Requirement: None

Lightning Lane: No (standby only)

13. Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover

Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover is one of the best rides at Magic Kingdom for toddlers. It is a ride on a track through Tomorrowland. The cars speed up and slow down, but the speed is always easy to handle.

The majority of the ride is outdoors with a nice breeze. The cars pass through the interiors of some buildings, giving you a peek inside Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin (and yes, you can hear Space Mountain’s screams from your seat).

More than anything, this ride is amazing because it is a good ten minutes long and almost always a walk-on. You can ride it repeatedly while most other attractions have a wait. It is the single best place in the park to sit down, rest your feet, and let a stroller-weary kid zone out for a few minutes.

Location: Tomorrowland

Height Requirement: None

Lightning Lane: No (standby only, and you rarely need it)

12. Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor

Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor is not a ride, but a Magic Kingdom indoor attraction featuring an air-conditioned, interactive comedy show. This is one of the best attractions in Magic Kingdom for adults who like dad jokes.

Mike Wazowski and friends collect laughter by mocking the audience in real time. Cameras zoom in on unsuspecting middle-aged men and hilarity ensues. The show is cute, it changes a bit every performance, and it’s a great place to take a break from walking. Pro tip: text a clever joke to the on-screen number before the show and it might end up on the big screen.

You can usually get into this attraction pretty quickly. I have never waited for more than two shows to end before it was our turn. Visit during the afternoon when the sun is trying to kill you.

Location: Tomorrowland

Height Requirement: None

Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass)

11. Mickey’s Philharmagic

Mickey’s Philharmagic is an indoor 3-D movie in a large theater. It is one of the best Magic Kingdom shows. Mickey conducts an orchestra with characters from Fantasia. Donald Duck throws a few fits, those giant brooms stomp around, instruments fly, and a pie sails right at your face. The movie is entertaining, runs about twelve minutes, and takes place in much-appreciated air conditioning.

You will be able to get into this attraction with a minor wait at best. Save it for a more crowded time of day when you genuinely need to sit in the dark and cool off.

Location: Fantasyland

Height Requirement: None

Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass)

10. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a roller coaster through tunnels, caves, rocks, and waterfalls. The vehicle is a runaway mine train that moves quickly. The ride is relatively mild and should be fun for those who are not huge thrill seekers. It’s a great “first real coaster” for a kid who’s outgrown the dark rides.

Here’s the big update: Big Thunder closed in early 2025 for a long refurbishment and reopened May 3, 2026 with new track, refreshed trains, and a tweaked Rainbow Caverns scene. The other change parents will care about is that the height requirement dropped from 40″ to 38″, so a few more of your shorties can ride.

This. Line. Is. Hot. There is a roof over this outdoor line, but it is not air conditioned. Prepare yourself to bake like Doug in The Hangover. Try to avoid this line in the middle of the day, or grab it on Lightning Lane if you splurged.

Location: Frontierland

Height Requirement: 38″

Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass)

9. Magic Kingdom it’s a small world

“it’s a small world” is another one of the best Magic Kingdom attractions for toddlers. It is an indoor boat ride through several rooms representing different cultures. There are roughly four billion animatronics singing the song over, and over, and over again.

This ride is old one of the Magic Kingdom original attractions, so some of the animatronics are less than politically correct. Putting that aside, the amount of work that went into this ride is mind blowing.

The ride is smooth, slow, and air conditioned. Everyone can ride, from the newborn to grandma. It clocks in at over ten minutes long, so it is worth some wait. The queue is outdoors and hot, so try to avoid riding during the middle of the day. Fair warning: that song will live in your skull for the rest of your vacation.

Location: Fantasyland

Height Requirement: None

Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass)

8. Magic Kingdom Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid

Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid is yet another one of the best Magic Kingdom rides for toddlers and small children. It is an indoor, air-conditioned ride through scenes from The Little Mermaid in a clamshell car. The cars move slowly, so everyone can ride.

This is one of our favorites, and we only have boys. There is a lot of detail, the colors are eye-catching, the “Under the Sea” room is genuinely impressive, and the music is fun. It reminds me of elementary school and rewinding the VHS tape repeatedly to see if the priest really did have what we thought he did (and he did).

The Magic Kingdom attraction wait times for this ride can get long, but are usually reasonable, and the queue itself has some fun Scuttle-themed games to keep kids occupied.

Location: Fantasyland

Height Requirement: None

Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass)

7. Magic Kingdom Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

If you were here looking for Splash Mountain, it’s gone. The old log flume closed in early 2023 and reopened on June 28, 2024 as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, a full retheme to The Princess and the Frog. The new version picks up after the movie, with Tiana and Louis searching the bayou for musicians to play a big Mardi Gras celebration. Same hill, same flume, same plunge at the end. Different (and far less problematic) story.

The ride is a Magic Kingdom water ride that floats you slowly past a swarm of new animatronics before sending you down one substantial drop. The detail is fantastic, the music is catchy, and yes, you will get wet. Pack your poncho.

This is a great ride to enjoy during warm weather. Cool weather, not so much (be a better mom than I am and don’t soak a five-year-old in January). The standby line gets quite long in warm weather, so ride it early or grab a Lightning Lane. For our take on how it stacks up against the rest of the soakers, see our ranking of water rides in Disney World from worst to first.

Location: Magic Kingdom Frontierland

Height Requirement: 40″

Lightning Lane: Yes (Single Pass, sold separately)

6. Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean is a Disney World classic and one of the best Magic Kingdom Adventureland attractions. This slow-moving, indoor boat ride takes you through several scenes starring pirates making bad decisions. The music is fun, there’s a (very small, very gentle) drop near the start, and there is a lot to see.

This ride has certainly been around the block a few times. You may not love some of the messages these pirates convey. You have to have these uncomfortable talks with your kid sometime, right? Why not start when they are two at Disney World?

Ignoring the whole teaching-the-toddler-to-drink-alcohol-and-commit-crime thing, you have to appreciate the intricate detail. You will also appreciate the chill atmosphere and air conditioning. The line tends to move quickly and is mostly indoors, snaking through a Spanish fort. Save this one for the middle of the day.

Location: Adventureland

Height Requirement: None

Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass)

5. Magic Kingdom Haunted Mansion

Haunted Mansion is a famous Disney World ride in a haunted house. You ride through different areas of the house on a slow-moving Doombuggy. It is one of the best rides in Magic Kingdom Orlando because there is a ton to see, from the ballroom of waltzing ghosts to a graveyard scene that is reminiscent of the Thriller video. The level of detail is beyond impressive, and the interactive stretching-portrait queue is half the fun.

Most kids will be fine on this ride, but it might make some uncomfortable. It is definitely dark, but it is more silly-spooky than scary. There is a stretching room before you board that has loud laughter, darkness, and thunder. If this will be too much for your child, ask a cast member to skip this part. If your kid spooks easily, our guide to the scariest rides at Disney World is worth a read before you go.

Part of this line is outdoors, but it moves quickly. The attraction itself is indoors in air conditioning.

Location: Magic Kingdom Liberty Square

Height Requirement: None

Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass)

4. Magic Kingdom 7 Dwarfs Mine Train

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is one of the Magic Kingdom new attractions, relatively speaking. The ride is modern and updated. It switches between quick twists and turns (but does not go upside down) and slow-moving sections with animatronics mining brightly colored gems. The cars actually swing side to side as you take the curves, which is a nice touch. It is one of the best Magic Kingdom rides for adults.

The Magic Kingdom wait times for this ride are extremely long. Like getting your Real ID at the DMV long. People run to this ride at rope drop like Walmart just opened the TV aisle on Black Friday. The ride is fun, but not two-hour-line fun. What kind of a crazy person would wait more than two hours for a ride? Spoiler alert: me. I am that moron. Ride it first thing, ride it at the very end of the night, or pay for a Lightning Lane and save your dignity.

Location: Fantasyland

Height Requirement: 38″ (commonly cited; confirm current signage at the entrance)

Lightning Lane: Yes (Single Pass, sold separately)

3. Peter Pan’s Flight

Peter Pan’s Flight is another one of the best attractions at Magic Kingdom for toddlers. You fly in a slow-moving pirate galleon over scenes from Peter Pan, gliding above a miniature, twinkling London. The colors are bright and fun, and the music is recognizable. The whole family can enjoy this ride together. It is indoors in air conditioning, so it is a great break from the sun.

The ride is short, and the line is bananas long because the ship-shaped cars only hold so many people per cycle. Arrive early, hit it at rope drop, or use Lightning Lane.

Location: Magic Kingdom Fantasyland

Height Requirement: None

Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass)

2. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is an indoor ride where you shoot aliens with lasers and rack up points. This is one of the best Magic Kingdom rides because you compete against the rest of your car, so your children are guaranteed to get into an argument. Bonus: your car spins, so you can angle for the high-value targets (the little green Zurg ones in the corners are worth the most).

The cars move slowly, so everyone can ride without difficulty. The ride is full of brightly colored things at which to aim. It is fun for everyone (until the fistfight over who got the higher score). Worth noting: Buzz reopened on April 8, 2026 after a refurbishment, so it’s freshly spruced up.

The line can get long, but the majority of it is indoors in the air conditioning.

Location: Magic Kingdom Tomorrowland

Height Requirement: None

Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass)

1. Magic Kingdom Space Mountain

Space Mountain is an indoor roller coaster through space. It is one of the best Magic Kingdom attractions for adults. The ride was around well before the Tanner family stopped by with Uncle Jesse. It could use a tune-up, and the track is jerkier than its smoother Disneyland cousin, but it is awesome. Just not for people with neck problems.

It is dark, and I mean really dark. You sit three to a rocket, single file, and you cannot see the person in front of you, let alone the next drop. I spent the entire ride convinced my son had fallen out of the car.

The line for this ride gets long, but it is indoors, so it is easy to tolerate. The building is air conditioned. This is a classic Lightning Lane splurge if the standby wait creeps past an hour.

Location: Tomorrowland

Magic Kingdom Height Requirement: 44″ (commonly cited; confirm current signage at the entrance)

Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass)

What’s Changing at Magic Kingdom in 2026?

If you haven’t been in a couple of years, parts of the park will look like a construction site, because they are. Here’s what’s different so you’re not blindsided at the rope drop:

  • Tom Sawyer Island, the Rivers of America, and the Liberty Square Riverboat all closed permanently in July 2025. A big chunk of Frontierland has been leveled to make way for a “Cars”-themed land and a separate Villains land. No opening dates have been announced, so expect walls and dust for a while.
  • The Walt Disney World Railroad is running in shuttle mode, looping between Main Street and Fantasyland only and skipping the Frontierland station because of the construction. It still runs; it just doesn’t circle the whole park right now.
  • The two big positives: Tiana’s Bayou Adventure replaced Splash Mountain, and Big Thunder Mountain reopened in May 2026 with new track and a lower 38″ height requirement.

Magic Kingdom Rides FAQ

What is the best Magic Kingdom ride for toddlers?

For the under-five crowd, the slow, air-conditioned dark rides are the sweet spot: Peter Pan’s Flight, Under the Sea, “it’s a small world,” and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh have no height requirement and won’t scare anyone. The PeopleMover is the unsung hero for naps and rest. For a full breakdown by age, see our guide to Magic Kingdom rides by age.

Do I still need FastPass+ or Genie+ at Magic Kingdom?

Neither one exists anymore. Free FastPass+ was retired, the paid Genie+ that replaced it has been rebranded, and the current skip-the-line products are Lightning Lane Multi Pass (covers a bunch of rides) and Lightning Lane Single Pass (top-tier rides like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, bought à la carte). You don’t need any of it to have a great day, but it helps on the headliners during peak season. You manage it all in the My Disney Experience app.

Do I need a park reservation for Magic Kingdom?

No, not with a standard date-based ticket. The reservation system that ran during the early 2020s was dropped for regular tickets, so you can just show up on your ticket’s date. Annual Passholders still have some reservation rules on weekends, but day-ticket visitors are free to roam.

How much is a one-day Magic Kingdom ticket in 2026?

A one-day, one-park adult ticket runs roughly $139 to $209 depending on the date, with the rock-bottom $139 price showing up only a couple of days a year and most non-summer dates landing in the high $180s to $190s. Kids’ tickets are a few dollars less per day. Because prices swing by date, always check current pricing before you book, and read our tips on saving money on a Disney trip first.

Can you do Magic Kingdom in one day?

You can hit the headliners in one well-planned day, but you’ll be moving fast and skipping the relaxing stuff. We genuinely think two days does the park justice, especially with little kids who need stroller breaks and afternoon meltdowns built into the schedule. If you’re weighing whether the park is even worth it for your crew, we answer that in Is Magic Kingdom Worth it for Toddlers?

Final Thoughts – Best Attractions at Magic Kingdom Orlando

Magic Kingdom park attractions and rides are some of the best of any theme park in the world. The vast majority can be enjoyed by the whole family, from the toddler to the great-grandparent. You really need two days to enjoy all the park has to offer. Make a touring plan, decide whether the Lightning Lane splurge is worth it for your family, save as much as possible, and go for it. Visit Disney World. You will not regret it.
